Back From the Future

This series was my final assignment in my Photo Styling class. I got to work with an amazing team from my class to design the set and set up the lights. My job in the group was styling the outfits, doing hair and make up and shooting these pictures. Liza Nay was kind enough to lend me the dress she designed in the first picture-and my new friend Victoria Brito did an incredible job modeling!

I've been updating my new blog RubyJune.us more frequently, however I thought I'd update here as well for a bit. This is from a photoshoot I styled, did hair and makeup and shot last semester. I met Kristin, the model, at school and the next day she adventured out to Coney Island with me to shoot these!

Last week Stephanie and her mom visited me from Grand Rapids for a photoshoot. I was excited and surprised when she asked if she could do a levitation shot-I haven't taken any since my series from two years ago! It made me realize how much I miss capturing the absurd in my photographs...there may be more levitation in the near future...

 

 

 

Ruby June Carrigan

Yesterday I photographed the beautiful Ruby June Carrigan. It was very strange meeting someone with the same first AND middle name as me!! She will be heading to NYC in June and needed some test shots to show different agencies. Good luck Ruby!! (It's even weird typing it. haha) I hate saying my own name...

I took these senior pictures for my friend Val. We had a great time getting her dressed up and going out to explore some of my favorite spots around Kalamazoo. She's absolutely gorgeous and incredibly hilarious. Here are a few of the shots we got!

 

 

 

SARAH-NORMAL ACTIVITY 3

 Sarah and I JUST went to see Paranormal Activity 3. I lost my voice screaming and am pretty sure I gave her a bruise from flailing around. I took these of her wearing my grandma's vintage 70's dress and a candy powder necklace I made a couple years ago. Whenever I get scared I always try to do something to scare other people more, I guess perhaps this is my attempt at that...? HAPPY ALMOST HALLOWEEN!!

 

Lucid Dreaming

I've been working on this series with my partner in crime, Sarah Sherman. Over the summer I decided instead of back to school clothes I would buy more animal masks to add to my collection. We're hoping on eventually creating a children's book! 

 In this second shot we spent almost 4 hours in search of a decent tree. We biked all around town until we found this one and just sat in the woods together tying carrots to the tree. It was a long tedious process, but definitely worth the quality Sarah time I got:}

 This shot got us quite a few looks and almost run over. I couldn't help cracking up inside the rabbit mask when I thought about how ridiculous we must've looked...

This is a series I did last year. I wanted to show how people get so detached from the world and caught up in their everyday routines rather than absorb what's going on around them. 

I'm going to try to post more soon! Right now I'm visiting NYC for the first time-SO OVERWHELMING-so hopefully I'll have some pixx from that too ;}

It's been so long since I've posted! I'm sorry I've been slack-a-lackin. I've been in Rockport Maine, attending the Maine Media Workshops for the last two weeks. I'll have photos from that to upload soon. Here's what I've done since I got back. Everyone except me got leaches from the lake! Usually I'm the one that gets haunted by critters, so I was pretty happy. 

The swamp was warm, but the creek was ice cold. When we got back to our cars we had to walk to the community college to wash up. They were confused by our old-fashioned garb, and dirty wet hair. We told them we had time traveled and I think they understood...
